'Embracing All Colours' is a portrait of my brother from his picture taken on Holi- a festival of colours celebrated in India. On Holi, people come together and play by smearing each other with colours and as my colleague says - when covered with Holi colours everyone looks the same.

As we were preparing for Holi this year news came of a shocking terror attack. Many innocent lives were lost due to discrimination against a race. When will we realise that we are all the same, just different parts of nature's rainbow on Earth?

Through this portrait I have tried to convey a message of peace and harmony. Though we are all different in race, colour and creed, we are all still the same. So, embrace all the colours. Stand united, stand strong.

I am delighted and absolutely thrilled to have this artwork being published in a renowned magazine in the near future

ARTIST BIO

Silvia D'Almeida

I am a part time coloured pencil artist. I love creating realistic artworks and I accept commissioned portrait works.

Though I always loved drawing as a kid, I never really pursued it as a career. Four years back while volunteering at my kids' school, I started drawing again and have never stopped creating art. I started with graphite portraits and have since experimented with different mediums like acrylic, watercolours, pastels. I was introduced to professional grade coloured pencils at a workshop in 2017 and I fell in love with this medium. I still experiment with different mediums but always come back to creating with coloured pencils.
