That 70s Girl by John Reeve

Features

ARTIST NOTES: In an era of more is more, when our clothing and women got louder, where real was surreal, and dropping out was ok.
In this work less is more, it's the absence of detail that tell's the story.

ARTIST BIO

John's work is a ‘reflective release’, oils on canvas for himself, for his personal expression.

The process is organic, not constricted by formality, but rather experimental and emotional, an effort to deconstruct reality, left with the subject exposed, no longer held within.

In 2014 John decided “this was going to be my thing, my turn, my private path, no longer constrained by family expectations, work and societies needs - the self imprisoned role to support others”.

He no longer needed to provide a "selfie" for others to approve, he needed the feelings inside or ‘behind the front cover’ to be expressed, to show what’s really happening.

Artist Experience

Age 47. Starting again in 2014 after a 24 year hiatus.

Experimenting with oils, pastels and charcoal.

Preferring larger projects for the speed and freedom of the process, with less detail and more emotion to evoke feeling.
